Other Classic Design Eights

Table 9: "Flat Top" Eights

• These are smaller than average.
• The flat top allows reducing the size somewhat without reducing friction as much as shrinking a round rope hole would.
• The flat top reduces rope twisting slightly, but not much: the main twisting still comes from the rope passing around the shaft.
• #339 and #1020 are milled from plate, the others are forged. All of these are made from an aluminum alloy.
• Some are unfinished, some are soft anodized, and some are hard anodized.
• Eights in this table that have the same finish type are, for practical rappelling purposes, interchangeable.
• In this table, special shading in the ID field background indicates eights that are particularly similar except for markings and possibly finish.
