Version A

Technical Details

I acquired this eight from Inner Mountain Outfitters in 1993.

The Viking, Version A is forged from aluminum alloy and has a polished anodized finish. Mine is 168 mm tall, 81 mm. wide, and 16 mm. thick. The rope hole is 53 mm. high and 53 mm wide. The top center thickness is 16 mm. The shaft length and width are 65 mm. and 27 mm, respectively. The eye measures 21 mm by 21 mm. My eight weighs 217 g.

One side is marked "VIKING" with a Viking logo, and the other side is stamped "05C."

Comments

The Viking, Version A is a large, forged, aluminum figure eight, The shank is longer than it needs to be, needlessly increasing the size and weight of this eight. The Viking is too heavy for my taste. Even though this is a large eight, the eye is too narrow to accept two full size locking carabiners.

Comments

The Viking, Version B is another large, forged, aluminum figure eight, The finish and markings differ from Version A's, but otherwise, it is essentially the same eight.
