I acquired this eight from AustriAlpin USA in 2007.
The AustriAlpin is forged from aluminum alloy and then soft anodized. Mine is 132 mm. tall, 74 mm. wide, and 13 mm. thick. The rope hole is 48 mm. high and 48 mm. wide. The top center thickness is 11 mm. The shaft length and width are 44 mm. and 24 mm., respectively. The eye measures 18 mm. by 25 mm. My eight weighs 106 g.
The front of this eight is etched with "CT LTD," and the rear is etched with "kN 30." The top rear is also marked "0603."
This is a typical example of a "midi" size, forged, aluminum eight. It is essentially identical to the Advanced Base Camp Versions A and B, Camp Version B, Camp/Lowe Versions A and B, CH, CT Ltd., Lucky Ecos Mini, Mammut Versions B and D, and Salewa Midi. The soft anodized aluminum will wear quickly when used on dirty ropes. The eye is 25 mm. wide, so it can be used for "Sticht" belaying on 9 mm. rope. The eye is a bit short for optimum use on 11 mm. rope. The strength marked on the eight is greater than that marked on most of the other "midi" eights, but again I consider this to be insignificant.
