Calma Antibloc

Technical Details

I acquired this eight from Barrabés.com in 2003.

The Calma Antibloc is forged from aluminum alloy and then soft anodized. Mine is 151 mm. tall, 109 mm. wide, and 15 mm. thick. The rope hole is 53 mm. high and 53 mm. wide. The top center thickness is 11 mm. The shaft length and width are 43 mm. and 30 mm, respectively. The auxiliary hole is 20.5 mm. high and 10.9 mm. wide. The eye measures 36 mm. by 36 mm. The ears are 23.2 mm. long. My Calma Antibloc weighs 143 g.

The front of the Calma Antibloc has "CALMA" in raised forged letters. The rear has "SPAIN," also in raised forged letters.

Comments

The Calma Antibloc is an interesting variation of the full sized figure eight with ears. The ears are placed low where they can function better without increasing the size of the eight beyond reason. The extra-large eye allows the eight to be reversed to generate more friction. This is useful when using thinner ropes (the Faders Classic is a deaf eight with a similar eye). The two-bar shank is cosmetic, and the slot between the bars has neither the size nor shape for belaying.
