Version D

Technical Details

I acquired this eight from John E. Weinel, Inc.in 1996.

The Russian, Version D is milled out of plate steel. Mine is 118 mm. tall, 101 mm. wide, and 8 mm. thick. The rope hole is 40 mm high and 43 mm. wide. The top center thickness is 8 mm. The shaft length and width are 41 mm. and 16 mm, respectively. The eye measures 16 mm. by 16 mm. The ears are 52.3 and 49.2 mm. long. My Russian, Version D weighs 323 g.

There are no markings on this eight.

Comments

This is a poor example of a T-side eight. This eight is milled out of plate steel. No attempt was made to smooth any of the resulting sharp edges or corners. As is, it can easily damage rope. The side horns are a nice, albeit unnecessary feature for tying off. The eye is too narrow to accept two full size locking carabiners. The Russian, Version D is too heavy for my taste.
