The
Servobrake is not an SRT device at all: it is a yachting device;
specifically, a boombrake. The side photo shows its use. Note
that the Servobrake is a bidirectional friction device. I included
it to illustrate that when one wants the rope to run in a particular
path, one can usually shape some metal to accomplish that goal.
Besides, I just think this is cool, and it would be possible to
rappel on it (but don't!).
You can get more information from the Hotwire site where I borrowed the picture and figure. They advertise the following:
The Servobrake is a cleverly designed, durable marine grade aluminum device that performs the function of a boombrake as well as a gybing regulator controlling both vertical & horizontal movements of the boom. It eliminates the need for a boom vang and a crew member constantly occupied with the mainsail.
I don't speak yachting, but I assume this means something to
those who do.
