Bachmann's Buttonhole knot is an early 1960s variation of the
Bachmann Ring Knot,
which is itself a semi-mechanical version of the Hedden
Knot. I think the original Hedden was better, since the bulky
figure eight loop interferes with the knot's operation.
The Simple Buttonhole is
a related knot tied with a single strand.
