May, 2004-Present
Program Manager & Fellow Engineer
Westinghouse Electric Company, LLC
Science & Technology Department
- Returned to my former employer and client to assist in bid
and proposal development, customer scope management, requirements
management, and control systems functional design. As Program
Manager, developed the project plan and schedule for taking IRIS
advanced nuclear power plant from an R&D project through
commercial development and deployment, including all activities
required for obtaining US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Final
Design Approval and Design Certification. Managed and assisted
the domestic and international partners designing the IRIS Loss
of Coolant Accident test facility in Piacenza, Italy. Developed
advanced I&C concepts and designs for IRIS.
- Assumed program management responsibility for the IRIS advanced
nuclear power plant
- Developed a requirements management process to define the
I&C requirements for and responses to a request-for-proposal
for four new power generating stations in China.
- Starting with a poor contract scope definition, successfully
negotiated acceptance criteria for an I&C upgrade for a
difficult European customer.
- Instruct DFSS courses in Voice of the Customer and Requirements
Management.
April, 2001 - February, 2004
Senior Consulting Engineer
Union Switch & Signal
Automation and Information Systems Division
- Retained to leverage expertise in developing railroad dispatching
software systems valued in the tens to hundreds of millions of
dollars. Oversaw all system engineers contributing to North American
railroad projects. Developed dispatching system requirements
for Canadian Pacific. Completed a Union Pacific positive train
control project for the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Led the system requirements negotiation process for CSXT's next
generation dispatching system project and ensured adherence throughout
project software design, code and test phases to ensure timely
completion. Conceived and developed a standardized requirements
management methodology for customer contractors and assembled
an integrated project schedule for all contractors. Established
subsystem, interface and test requirements in cooperation with
customer contractors. Coordinated customer contractor activities
following approval of proposed system requirements.
- Lead Systems Engineer and System Integrator for CSXT (Eastern
U. S. A.) Next Generation Dispatching System
- Negotiated the technical and process requirements that led
to securing a $40 million contract for CSXT's next generation
dispatching system software.
- Developed the project-level plans and schedules to coordinate
the activities of eight CSXT customer contractors.
- Instituted a requirements-based development process for next
generation dispatching systems.
- Authored system, sub-system and interface requirement specifications
for US&S and customer contractors.
February 1988 - April, 2001
